Who is James Wheeler?
I'm an accountant, tax advisor, and practice owner. I launched the Jameco Group in 2017 and built it into a specialist practice. Small team, high margins, and a waiting list of clients who come to us rather than the other way round.
I now run multiple businesses under the Jameco Group, including Jameco Construction CFO and Jameco Practice Advisory.
I'm not a trained mentor. I don't have a coaching qualification on my wall. I'm not someone who sold a practice five years ago and now teaches from a playbook that no longer works. And I'm not a marketer who's never run a practice trying to tell you how to run yours.
I'm not going to promise you a seven figure firm in twelve months. What I have is a live practice that I still run every day, and nine years of figuring out what actually works.
Still reading? Good. That probably means we'd work well together.

What I figured out along the way
I've likely made every mistake you're making right now. Underpriced for too long. Said yes to the wrong clients. Tried to do everything myself. Struggling to attract good clients. Built a job instead of a business.
Over time I worked it out. I niched down, rebuilt my pricing, attracted clients who came to me rather than the other way round, and built a team that could deliver without me being involved in every piece of work.
Today I run a specialist practice with high margins, a small team, and clients who value what we do. Not the "seven figure firm" that other mentors love to promise. But a profitable one that doesn't consume me, and probably making more profit than some of them at seven figures.
Why I started mentoring
The more I spoke to other firm owners, the more I realised how many of them were stuck in the same place I'd been. Technically brilliant, working harder than anyone, but with a practice that was running them rather than the other way round.
I started Jameco Practice Advisory because I knew I could help. Not with theory from a textbook, or a group coaching session, or a course recorded three years ago. Real, one-to-one mentoring based on what I'm doing right now in a live practice, holding you accountable and implementing change.
I work with ten firm owners at a time to make sure I can maintain the one-to-one level of detail whilst also running Jameco. When it's full, it's full, and a waitlist opens.
What you're getting into
Turnover, ego, an impressive office that sits empty half the time. That's not what I measure success by. I'm interested in the profit your practice makes and the lifestyle it gives you and your family. A £300k firm with strong margins and a small team beats a £1m firm that's eating its owner alive.
I'm obsessive about detail and accountability. I don't offer guarantees or get rich quick schemes. It takes hard work, persistence, and determination. Being in the right place at the right time helps, but the groundwork is what puts you there. What I can do is teach you the skills I've learned to put the odds in your favour and help you implement them.
But I'll also tell you things you don't want to hear. If your pricing is wrong, I'll say so. If you need to fire a client, I'll say so. If you're the problem, I'll say that too. That's what you're paying for.
Everything we discuss stays between us. Your numbers, your clients, your decisions. I'm fiercely loyal to the people I work with and confidentiality isn't negotiable.
